Enforcement training for local authorities
A much shortened enforcement training course has been run on a number of occasions already for local authority enforcement officers across the region. The Environment Agency's enforcement training contractor has delivered the theory part of the usual week long course in just 2 days.
Interestingly the participants have not been limited to enforcement officers alone. Members of authorities Legal Departments have attended to ensure they are up to date with the relevant legislation and to know what their enforcement officers are learning. The feedback from this section of attendees has been very favourable.
To ensure that the new skills don't go rusty before the first prosecution Courtroom experience is been programmed into the CRAFT programme itself. Here Magistrates, defence solicitors and other Court users are readily volunteering their time to help achieve a realistic day in Court.
Surveillance is an issue
There are a number of issues with respect to surveillance and these have been addressed in a one-day surveillance course again delivered by the Agency's training contractor. The use of CCTV is covered in detail in this training. CCTV will be the way to monitor remote and isolated hotspots.

Further courses are likely to be run as more local authority staff resources are devoted to fly tipping enforcement. Our programme for 2006 can be seen here>> To register your interest in a future course send an email to the webmaster or call 08701 999 456 (Lancashire BEA).
