Evidence of Fly Tipping

The enforcement authorities need YOUR help in prosecuting those people who think that disposing of waste by fly tipping is acceptable.

We want you to report fly tipping incidents using whichever means of communication best suits you. For advice on these issues please visit our Advice Centre.

Witnesses Sought

The best way to ensure the culprits are brought to justice is to act as a witness if you saw illegal dumping taking place.

Irrefutable evidence is the only sort of evidence that will convict a fly tipper. Defence solicitors are paid to find the loopholes and inaccuracies in evidence presented in Court. What might seem an open and shut case to the man-in-the-street quite often are thrown out of Court on technicalities.

All local authority enforcement officers are trained to obtain evidence that will convict the guilty party. That said eye witnesses can give statements. If what you say in a written statement can be corroborated the quality of your evidence is excellent. In this case you will most likely not need to attend Court.

If you do have to attend Court to give evidence don't be overawed. Courts and trials in them take place everyday. You will be given help and advice by the prosecuting solicitor on what he or she will expect of you when you give your evidence in chief. They will also give you hints on handling the cross-examination by the defence solicitor. Information on what you will find in Court is available here>>.

It can happen in town too Traders are expected to pay for the dispose of their waste. Some don't!
